To qualify in
four years-time they need to commence their campaigns now to improve
their FIVB world rankings and to get to the FIVB World Championships in
Poland next year. The progress of the Vanuatu Team, since 2009 with a world ranking of 350 has been one of steady progress. From ranking 350 in the world, the women have climbed as high as 36 in the world. During this period there have been some incredible achievements
including gold in the 2012 FIVB Korea Challenger, gold in the AVC China
Open, bronze in Vietnam Open, 9th FIVB Olympic Games Test Event in
London and comfortably winning the gold at the Pacific Games in
September 2011. Currently they are within the top 48 teams in the world, but they need to continue to play in the FIVB World Tour events to improve their world ranking. The FIVB World Tour travels throughout Asia, South America and Europe for around 6 months of the year and is a pre requisite to qualification for World Championship and Olympic Games, with each event costing the Vanuatu team close to US$10 000 they are currently raising funds and seeking sponsorship. The Olympic Creed reminds us that like the Olympics life is a challenge. A fascinating story of leaving their tiny Pacific Island of Vanuatu, and coping with the cultural and sporting challenges of establishing themselves as World Class. Australian Coach Lauren McLeod talks about the challenges and accomplishments of Linline Matauatu and Miller Elwin. This film shows the unique journey of two young Beach Volleyball players aiming to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics. This films follows the team as they train in Crewe and compete at the FIVB Beach Volleyball International tournament hosted at London Horse Guards Parade.
